RE: Universal Chat Thread - Mr EliteL - Dec 7th, 2024 Ahh, dang try and use the time wisely if you haven't got any priorities like work/uni work to do. You don't get this time often, even if Shira was there too I guess. Yay weather, UK getting hit by a storm for once. Where I am has been raining and very windy. Hell, it's so windy it's coming through freaking closed windows and making our new blinds move ever so slightly. RE: Universal Chat Thread - Maniakkid25 - Dec 7th, 2024 Classic Choice Paralysis. So many things you can do, you don't know where to start, so you don't wanna do any of them lol. Meanwhile, I'm scheduled for a brutally long day (10.5 hours), and closing, to boot. Not only that, I'm closing with our resident cleaning freak, and I'm doing the floors tonight, so I gotta make sure I do my job right tonight! RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 9th, 2024 (Dec 7th, 2024, 11:47 PM)Mr EliteL Wrote:Oh I have homework to do and there was stuff around the house I could have done, but alas I couldn't decide where to actually start due to so many options. If not that, I was just feeling like I had zero energy to even move let alone do anything else. I saw nothing of that storm until I went looking up something else yesterday (forget what) and happened to pass by a BBC headline about the storm. My parents mentioned nothing of it when I was on the phone to them earlier yesterday so I thought it wasn't hitting your end of the country but I guess it was. As for the wind managing to blow things inside the house despite being closed I'd be concerned how airtight the windows are. I can't say I've ever noticed the blinds ever moving in the windows of my house over here even when hurricanes and tropical storms are causing chaos nearby. o.o (Dec 7th, 2024, 11:53 PM)Maniakkid25 Wrote:Yeah, and then when you do wanna do them it's either not a good time or they're time sensitive and you now have less time to get them done than you would have if you had made the choice earlier. ![]() Oof, and I'm assuming that's really 11 hours because of a half hour break or is the 10.5 including the break time too? Either way that sucks; I haven't had a shift that long in forever because I reduced my availability due to classes. Now the real question is did you actually do a 10.5 hour shift or was it longer, because I know closing shifts are never guaranteed to end when your schedule claims it will. ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Maniakkid25 - Dec 9th, 2024 It was 15 minutes shorter than it was scheduled, and yes, that 10.5 hours includes my break. I always count by the length of time I'm at work, regardless of break time, because fuck this, I wanna be home lol. Besides, given how random the break lengths can be (or even getting a break at all), what's the point if counting it without the break? Sure, I'm not getting paid on my break, but that doesn't mean I'm not at work. RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 10th, 2024 True, I just know the schedule will usually only state the paid hours rather than the total so wasn't sure if that was the number you were using. ![]() And I feel ya on breaks being a coin toss of getting them or not. Normally if I end up not having gone on break and I have less than two hours of my shift remaining I'll just push through and clock out half an hour early instead or something. ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Maniakkid25 - Dec 11th, 2024 I'll tell you what, though, my favorite shifts are when I have to close the store, and then immediately open the store the next day! It's always fun not getting enough sleep and having to return to work without any time to unwind or anything like that. Edit: Aaaaaand the ticket scanner is busted, meaning I have to type in a 24-digit code every time I want to check a lottery ticket. Because there are seriously people who wake up first thing in the morning, and say "Let's go gambling!" Pro-tip for all you gamblers out there: at the start of the day, we do not have enough cash to cash out your 500 dollar ticket (yes, I just had that happen), so wait until later in the day so that we don't have to give ourselves a headache keeping track of where we stole the money from to pay you. RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 11th, 2024 (Dec 11th, 2024, 01:01 PM)Maniakkid25 Wrote:Oof, I've never had to deal with a close/open at any point fortunately. I'm trying to remember what rule my old job had about how long you had to have between shifts for time off because I know when I worked there anyone who left at 10pm would never be in at 7am the next day. ![]() And yeah, most of the people who come into my store at 7am are those who want lotto tickets too. I get the feeling if you're waking up and partaking in gambling the second you're able to do it that it's probably a sign of a gambling problem even if you're not doing it every day. ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Nebulous - Dec 23rd, 2024 Hey peeps, long time no see. Hope your December is going well. RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 23rd, 2024 Hey @Nebulous! How have you been since we last saw you? ![]() So I encountered a real life example of the monkey's paw today at work; I was hanging price tags on my department and got one for a product I hadn't noticed before because I've never filled it, and learned that Quorn sell a product called "Meatless Mini Sausage Pastry Puffs" which are literally just vegetarian sausage rolls. I've wished for years that America sold sausage rolls and then when a company actually does it it's a vegetarian version which I don't care for! ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - ShiraNoMai - Dec 24th, 2024 Truly a tragedy for the ages ![]() Slightly adjacent feeling: Was looking through Nintendo's Music App, and in their Mario Kart 8 track list was the new Yoshi's Island DLC course. The amount of detail they put into that ONE course really begs the question: Do they plan to do something ELSE with all of those assets??? They remixed the Athletic theme, the Goal Ring theme, AND the Results board screen theme. Are we dangling on the precipice of a Yoshi's Island remake? Or am I doomed to Quorn's version? ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Mr EliteL - Dec 24th, 2024 How'd I forget or just not know the US doesn't do sausage rolls, how'd it not catch on properly...?! Ahh my poor Switch, I haven't used it in months now, don't even know what month it was I played it last. Huh, both of these require this: ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 24th, 2024 Holy truck nuts I swear it's crazier at my store today than it was for the day before Thanksgiving. I've spent more time answering questions and tidying aisles than I have working stock, and I'm about ready to headbutt a pissing wall! ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Nebulous - Dec 25th, 2024 (Dec 23rd, 2024, 07:03 PM)Moonface Wrote: Doing good. I am no longer a forum owner. Just a regular member floating around from forum to forum whenever I have some free time. Life is busy! How about you? I made a blog, it was fun putting it together. I think that's the perfect low maintenance type of thing for me to run. Other than that, going to the movies today and tomorrow. Also, it's almost New Years Eve! ![]() RE: Universal Chat Thread - Moonface - Dec 29th, 2024 (Dec 25th, 2024, 12:08 AM)Nebulous Wrote:Oh no? You handed over Off Topix to someone else then? For me life is either busy, or when it's not I'm lucky to not be suffering with a migraine that prevents me from doing a lot and then all the things I would do pile up to make my days that shouldn't be busy, busy. ![]() I didn't quote it but what movies are you going to see? |
