Although reading the rest of your post (I tend to reply to quoted stuff as I'm actively reading it rather than fully reading and then replying lol) I see it wasn't wrecked this time, but I still stand by thinking there was a time this sorta thing happened before. ![]() Speaking of postage carriers, nothing against them because I don't blame them but DHL were supposed to deliver my passport a few days ago and failed to deliver it because they couldn't get into our development due to lack of a gate code. Thing is, I've never known any postage carrier to need a gate code provided to them for who they're shipping to; any other time regardless of who it was they just get in so I thought all postage carriers can just get into somewhere they have mail to deliver to because that would be the logical thing, but apparently DHL is a special child who doesn't want to work like everyone else. So now I have to figure out how to give them my gate code so they can get in to deliver my passport. ![]() In other wonderful news, the past two days were torture because out of nowhere our A/C decided to rupture a coil despite being only two years old. We didn't know what was wrong with it until the tech came out to inspect it though, so naturally he didn't have any of the parts on him to fix it so they had to come back the next day (yesterday) to do it. It made doing anything a slog because the house was sitting at 85F constantly. x.x We did go to the mall today though which was something we wanted to do earlier in the week but our A/C dying and having to be home for the tech to come out derailed that. Managed to find a few cool things there to buy.
RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Mr EliteL - May 25th, 2026 Effing problems everywhere, when will life give us a well deserved break from them, baka. Medication should really have some urgent message both on the packaging and shipping info for the carrier so they can prioritise them. I know FedEx doesn't seem to be trusted, so screw their lack of care for time. We're getting hot weather in this second half of May so I've been feeling that. Woke up sweating one night but that was me still having my duvet in, slept with just the cover this time and was fine. I expect June/July when we get the hot weather then will be worse than now. So darn suffering no A/C for a while over there in the US, oh noes. Also DHL being useless. My recent problems if I can call them that, other than my Dad and weather (risk of sunburn, difficulty sleeping), is losing a few items. Lost my MP3 player which I was charging then put away somewhere, not in my house at the time, and suddenly poof. Gone, no idea when or where it happened. Checked and emptied all the bags I thought it was in, nah. Bought a new one but the audio is poor, far worse than what I like. Not sure what I'll do with the new one. Yeah I still use MP3 players, so what. The music on my phone is meant to be my back up, but phone is too big to carry like on a walk or run, or to just chill without a screen glaring at my eyes. Other couple of lost things are rather minor and not too big of a problem. RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Kyng - May 29th, 2026 Well, it's not been a fun week weather-wise. It was rather hot the first couple of days of the week: it was around 30°C (86°F), which I appreciate isn't that hot by US standards, but bear in mind that here in the UK, most of us don't have air conditioning, since it's not considered necessary here! Between this on the first two days and nights of the week, and storms on Wednesday night, I had a hard time sleeping . On the plus side, I participated in an online quiz on Wednesday, with my sister and a couple of her friends. Our team won, but partly because the opposing team was down a member, so it didn't feel entirely earned! Though some of the questions certainly fell my way: there was a train question, for example ("Which 1953 Ealing comedy featured a group of villagers aiming to save their local branch line?". I knew it was The Titfield Thunderbolt, having seen that film about 20 years ago )And today, I went out to my local South Indian restaurant with my family. I had some of my old favourites: Chicken 65 to start, beef ularthiyathu as a main, and lemon rice, egg-fried rice, and tandoori roti bread for the table to share. All lovely stuff: most of these are my old favourites! RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Moonface - May 30th, 2026 (May 29th, 2026, 10:26 PM)Kyng Wrote:Given the increasing temperatures over the years I'd be surprised if new builds in the UK aren't already starting to be built with A/C in them, especially since they can work for heating purposes too so it isn't like they'd be useless in the winter. On the flip side though, I don't know if it would be cheaper just warming a house up the traditional way with radiators. ![]() Finally got my new passport in the mail the other day! So the first time DHL tried to deliver to me was my new passport, then the second time they tried and I gave them the gate code it turned out that was for my old passport to be sent back to me, so I figured my new one wasn't actually ready yet but it came two days later. I only know that was the original failed delivery because of the code, but I wasn't checking those at first because I didn't know my new and old passports were being mailed to me separately. ![]() Now I just need to try and get out of the mental funk I've been in a lot lately. Been finding it real hard to want to do anything or if I do want to I feel like I have no energy or drive to actually do it.
RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Kyng - May 31st, 2026 (May 30th, 2026, 09:05 PM)Moonface Wrote: Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me too much if they were: it'd still be rare for air con to be necessary today, but would be likely to get more common in the coming years. Although, since neither I nor any of my friends lives in a new-build with air con, I can't verify that first-hand . Sounds like a bit of a mess with the passports, although I'm glad it all sorted itself out quickly enough in the end! Sorry to hear about the mental funk... I'm a bit the same way, probably due to not getting enough sleep earlier in the week. Hopefully a good night's sleep will sort me out . Anyway, my sister went home today - but, yesterday, we got a chance to do one last thing together. We went to Chester Zoo, since we discovered they have substantially cheaper tickets for the afternoon only (you can get in for just £10 if you arrive after 3pm; from memory, the standard ticket price is about £35). And, since the zoo closes at 6pm, arriving at 3pm still gives you three hours there - which, admittedly, isn't enough time to explore the entire zoo, but is enough to explore a decent chunk of it. Which we did - and we saw quite a few animals, including a recently-born baby aardvark called 'Womble'. He was asleep at the time, though! After we left the zoo, we got a takeaway of scampi and chips from our local chippy. That was lovely (as it always is) - but, we kind of forgot how large the chip portion sizes were. I managed to finish mine, although I was pretty stuffed! RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Mr EliteL - Jun 1st, 2026 Yeah the weather temperature was too much last week. Was slightly less hot later but I still need to sleep with no pj top on and just a duvet cover. I have to bathe myself in sun lotion to prevent burns as I have light skin. I think I can tolerate 20 degrees without but 30, yeesh! Then again I didn't go out after work in the later part of the week to fully gauge how hot it was, except walking home which I needed to take my work jacket off for the mere 5 min walk. Ah I didn't post in here about last week, but on the 25th I was at an outdoor classic train/bus/car show. So I was out in the heat for a long time, then a bit on the 26th round my Dad's. I needed a lot of sun lotion then. I never understood why they don't send both passports back at the same time. I can only think of a possibility of the mail getting lost or intercepted, so it's a 50% chance it'll be the old invalid passport. If they came together it's already known they cut part of the old so you can easily know which one not to use. Rather stupid week for work. Getting lots of stock, my section leader off, having to do too many other jobs while only 1 person has to deal with stock and shop floor rotation keeps screwing us over. Came to the point where I had to bring it up with photos myself in our group chat and my 3 other colleagues that includes our leader feel the same (I could already tell they felt the same btw), and I don't normally use photos to prove the point of. We're back to needing another colleague again that they refuse to give us to help deal with the amount of workload we have. Lost sleep as I woke up early over an hour ago thinking about this, so I only got like 5-6 hours when should get 8-9 on a non work day. I would've ranted on here earlier but needed to rest and take my mind off it after work. RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Kyng - Jun 15th, 2026 Well, for the past four days, my girlfriend stayed with me at my house . Here are a few of the highlights of what we did:
