RE: General Game Chat - Dragon Lord - Oct 21st, 2025 @Moonface The "V2" DualSense controller was just a very minor updated one that changed some of the internals of the controller to increase stability, no major changes were made to it. It was never officially called a "Version 2" by PlayStation, but it's just what players call it to differentiate between the original DualSense and the updated one. The Edge is considered its own category of controller, since it has a lot of features the normal DualSense lacks. The rumored new PS5 Pro model does seem pointless. A 3% decrease in power consumption is just... so insignificant that I don't see the point in it. I mean, I guess in the end it won't really affect anything because it'll probably just be what they produce from now on and anyone who has the "old" version of the console is only missing out on that insignificant 3%, so they won't feel the need to have to go out and buy the "new" one (though I'm sure some PlayStation diehards will anyways because they HAVE to have the "best" version of it). RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Oct 27th, 2025 @Dragon Lord: Ah, makes sense then. As for the PS5 Pro change, I looked up whether the PS4 had revisions and the Pro model for that was revised twice, but Sony didn't announce either one because they just changed minor things like updated internal components or power supply. The standard PS4 had multiple revisions too, and even the standard PS5 has had revisions too so I'm guessing that PS5 Pro rumor is just about a minor revision that will probably roll out quietly like every other hardware revision Sony has done. For anyone interested, I just discovered that Internet Archive has quite a few gaming art books in full on it. I'm sure there's more if you search around on the site but this page has a good amount: https://archive.org/details/folkscanomy_gameartbooks I'm surprised how many of them are relatively recent books and how many Nintendo ones there are; I'd have definitely expected Nintendo to clamp down on full uploads of their artbooks. RE: General Game Chat - Dragon Lord - Oct 28th, 2025 So now word is coming out that the rumor about the new version of the DualSense controller having a removable battery pack is false, contradicting what was originally said. Seems like this is going to be a continued back and forth until something official is announced. Stay tuned (I just hope the "leaked" image of it with the colored buttons is true, bring back the colors Sony!). RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Oct 31st, 2025 (Oct 28th, 2025, 06:33 PM)Dragon Lord Wrote:Same here, although I can understand why they did have to ditch them to a degree. On the more neutral colored controllers like black/white/grey the colored buttons would work well, but on any of the colored controllers it might look really bad or even cause a color conflict for people with color blindness. Granted, for the latter people will generally memorize the buttons and not even need the symbols on them to know what's what but from a design perspective it's something that still has to be considered despite that. @Maniakkid25: I just saw that reviews for the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection dropped and I remembered a few months ago we were talking about what games are/might be in the collection so went to see what the final game list is. I can't remember what was confirmed back in that post I linked but the final game count is 22 so three more were announced for the collection since then, but alas Deadly Alliance still only has the GBA version. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Dec 29th, 2025 Huh, so I looked up on Wikipedia when the DualShock first released as part of a conversation with @ShiraNoMai this morning related to the N64 game Mischief Makers, and out of curiosity went to the Sixaxis page linked in the DualShock 3 section to see if it mentioned why that controller didn't have any rumble features. I was expecting it to be Sony needed more time to make it work with the new motion sensing features of the controller, which funnily enough is the "official" reason they gave at E3 2006. The real reason however is that Sony were in a legal dispute over the use of haptic technology as it had been patented by another company years prior. ![]() I was curious if Sony still have to pay any royalties to Immersion for the DualShock 4 or the DualSense, but all I found was that Immersion let their patent expire in 2018 via failure to pay the respective maintenance fee. Just a neat thing I wanted to share because it genuinely surprised me to learn all of this stuff.
RE: General Game Chat - Mr EliteL - Dec 29th, 2025 Huh, interesting. If someone asked me if DualShock 3 had rumble features I would remember wrong and just say yes because I thought each DualShock does. I would've turned it off anyway if I could as I tend not to enjoy controllers vibrating. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Jan 5th, 2026 (Dec 29th, 2025, 10:47 PM)Mr EliteL Wrote:Huh, you're the first person I've seen say they dislike controller vibration. ![]() For me the only toggleable feature I sometimes take issue with is the speaker on the PS4/PS5 controllers. I can't recall off the top of my head but I know there have been one or two games that used it in a way that wasn't necessary and/or annoying so I'd disable it in the games options menu. On a side note, I've never really seen much of Conker's Bad Fur Day before and know very little about it either, but the main streamer I watch played it for their first time today and man, that game is such a rollercoaster of ideas it makes me wonder how the planning for that game went. ![]() Also at one point you go inside some creature (I forget what it actually was) and it made me realize that 90s games really had a thing about going inside something and making a level of it. OoT does it, Yoshi's Island does it, and so does Ape Escape. Yet I can't think of any games within the style/genre of those that released in the last 15+ years that does it.
RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Jan 6th, 2026 (Jan 5th, 2026, 10:00 PM)Moonface Wrote: Devil May Cry 3? Well, that was 20 years ago (2005), so I guess it doesn't count. I can't think of any from the 360/PS3 era or later, but then again I don't really like games that make you go through areas that are clearly biological internals. It squicks me. Conker's Bad Fur Day is wild! It's hilarious (as long as you find 90s humor hilarious), irreverent, and absolutely tasteless at times, but I love it. It's a shame its Xbox remake (Live and Reloaded) was actually more heavily censored than the original N64 version, which itself was censored and marketed terribly because Nintendo didn't like the adult games on its console. My, how things change. Either way, its a brilliant Rare platformer, and I highly recommend it! RE: General Game Chat - Mr EliteL - Jan 6th, 2026 I didn't mind vibration controls when I was younger, I dunno they just annoy me now especially when I want to focus on a game, then the rumble gets a little distracting in a bad way as I want it to stop. I haven't played it for ages but Smash Bros does when KO's happen, that isn't so bad. I may have turned it off then even, can't remember. Ah, levels that go inside something. Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story, half the game is like that. Given it's a Mario & Luigi game it at least isn't grotesque. 2009 that was, 16-17 years ago.
RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Jan 13th, 2026 So, we are 2 weeks into 2026, and there's already been a major release that shit the bed so hard, it's getting whispers for "Worst Game of the Year". That game is Code Violet. I've heard it alleged that this is meant to be a spiritual successor to Dino Crisis, and I know it's by the same developer that brought us the wonderful (read: terrible) game known as "Quantum Error". Despite looking like asset flip garbage that even Steam would blush at, this is, in fact, a major release that Sony proudly revealed on its Youtube page. Twice. It's currently exclusively on the PS5 for 50 bucks. Welcome to 2026. RE: General Game Chat - ShiraNoMai - Jan 13th, 2026 Exclusive on PS5 because they don't want people refunding their ass-garbage game #4, and you very much cannot refund games on PlayStation! They purported the reason for console exclusivity was "to avoid inappropriate modded content into it" via Steam/PC. I think they very much did not care for the appropriateness of the alleged content people would make... as if anyone would put effort into modding a game like that anyway. RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Jan 14th, 2026 Given that Daikatana has a dedicated mod following, I have no doubts that people would put efforts into this game, if only to make it not suck eggs. That and nudity mods, given the player character is a voluptuous woman. Can't forget the nudity mods. Look, there's a nude mod for Cloud's Mom in FF7 Rebirth; I don't put it past people. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Jan 15th, 2026 (Jan 13th, 2026, 12:47 AM)Maniakkid25 Wrote:I hadn't heard of this game at all until I saw a streamer I watch on Twitch playing it. When they mentioned it being a PlayStation exclusive I was surprised only because I never saw Sony promoting the game, but when I checked their channel saw they had put up videos for it throughout last year. I would've expected it to have been on a State of Play at least once just because why would any of the big three not promote an exclusive third party game on their respective game announcement streams? ![]() When I was first watching it I'll admit it didn't look utterly terrible, but also nothing great either. It just seemed okay and I was under the impression it was by only a few people and so any jank was due to that. Then later I learned it was a $50 game and as @ShiraNoMai already pointed out, that their reasoning for not having the game on PC is probably bullshit given how they present the playable character and to avoid refunds, considering that none of their previous games have been received well and I've seen a lot of criticism towards the game for how bad of a game it is. Heck, the streamer I watched play some of it is someone who rarely dislikes any game they play and tries to find something good in everything they play, and they really disliked this game which for me says a lot. I'd be surprised if the developer manages to put out another game after this though. I'd never heard of any of their prior ones, but this one seems to have really made the rounds due to costing so much for something not close to worth it and on a platform where nobody can get a refund. Not to say they had a great reputation beforehand, but I get the impression this one burned too many people for there to be anything to salvage going forward. I know it probably wasn't used in the wrong way but to me retirement is being 100% done with working which was what I thought this was going to be, but I just saw that Doug Bowser has joined Hasbro as a member of their board of directors. Re-reading the quoted post again fully, I also haven't heard a peep about Pritchard since Bowser left his position.
