I rented it from Blockbuster! Remember those?! I'm pretty sure I actually saw it on DVD, though, not VHS.

Ah, I don't know why but I forgot entirely about rentals and expected you to say it was on TV or you saw it years later or something. Yet, Blockbuster has been a thing I've thought about within the last week.
Which of the three parts/individual movies is your favourite one? Or is it none of them and actually the Angela Anaconda special that was before the western movie?

THAT WAS HER NAME! You know, I kept forgetting her name, and I knew she was, like, an actual TV show that was on, so I been thinking for a while "What was the name of that character again?" Thank you for knowing it.
Probably Our War Game, which is section two. It had the least amount of cuts, so it's not nearly as hard to follow the story. It's also WAY more intense than the rest of the film, given the actual stakes involve a goddamned missile hitting Odaiba. I believe in the original, it's implied to be a nuke, but I'm willing to admit to being wrong on that.

Heh, there was a long time I forgot what her name was too and could only remember what the show looked like. Once I did remember her name I refuse to let myself forget it.
Huh, now I'm wondering how much more was cut in the first part by comparison, because I can't see what would need to be cut from that part as it doesn't have to continue from anything and is so far time-wise from the second part that it can just wave everything off as "resolved in time skip".
Figured I'd look up whether it was nukes or not, and the western movie has them labelled as nukes, with one going to Odaiba and the other aimed for Colorado. The original movie instead has them just be ISBM's, which is probably the more sensible choice of the two considering it drops into some random lake in the middle of the city without issue, and I don't think a nuke could possibly do that.

You say that, but there are several incidents where a nuke has been dropped on accident, and not caused an explosion. Hell, there's a plot of land that the government owns in North Carolina that is literally cordoned off because we accident dropped a nuclear bomb in that area. The aircraft it was in blew up, so the bomb dropped, and three of the four switches meant to activate it were released, meaning the bomb nearly armed. It instead disintegrated upon hitting the ground, burying itself several dozen feet.
Now that I think about it, it would make more sense for the Western version to categorize them as nukes, but not the Japanese version, given their history, and I should not need to say anything more.
Maybe the first movie (Digimon Adventure -- not to be confused with the TV series Digimon Adventure. That's not confusing at all) has fewer cuts by virtue of being shorter (it's about half as long as Our War Game), but I do know for a fact that Hurricane Touchdown (part three) had an entire subplot of the movie just ripped the hell out. The older Digidestined all get kidnapped and de-aged because Wendigomon is looking for Willis (or "Wallace", in the original Japanese), and only knew him when he was really young. I absolutely understand why they took it out (time and it seriously slows the story), but it just makes the climax make no sense, and it actually cuts out the reason TK and Kari are in America to begin with! They were visiting Mimi, and she gets kidnapped, kickstarting the plot!
Also, the dub misses the glorious fact that Wallace knows Japanese, but he's an American, so when he calls his mother, they had his voice actor speak in full English, but the VA has a clear Japanese accent to their English, so it's really funny.
